Balayage and babylights are two of the most requested color services at our Fresno salon, and they are often confused. Both brighten your hair and add dimension without a harsh, solid color. The difference is in how the color is placed and the final look you get.
What is balayage?
Balayage is a French word that means "to sweep." Your colorist paints lightener freehand onto the surface of your hair, usually heavier toward the ends and softer near the roots. The result looks like hair that was naturally lightened by the sun, with a soft, blended grow-out.
Balayage is a great choice if you want low maintenance color. Because there is no sharp line at the root, many clients go three to four months between appointments.
What are babylights?
Babylights are very fine, delicate highlights woven close to the root, usually with foils. They imitate the tiny natural highlights children get in the summer. The result is an all-over brightness that looks soft and natural from root to tip.
Babylights are ideal if you want to go lighter overall, blend gray hair, or brighten your face without a big contrast.

What to expect at your appointment
Every color service starts with a consultation. Bring two or three photos of looks you love and one you do not like. Your colorist will look at your current color, history and hair health, then explain what is possible in one session. Plan for two and a half to four hours. Many clients add a toner and a bond-repair or Hair Botox treatment to keep hair soft and shiny after lightening.
